Nick Luois Amora, Unalaska, RAHI 2024

Luois received the Alaska NSF EPSCoR - RAHI Partnership Scholarship for the fall 2025 semester.

Luois is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Alaska Anchorage, preparing for medical school with plans to specialize in child and adolescent psychiatry. His long-term goal is to return to his hometown of Unalaska as a physician, supporting youth mental health and helping reduce stigma around seeking care.

Staying deeply connected to his community, Luois has interned with the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association and Southwest Area Health Education Center, where he helped introduce dual-credit classes in healthcare for Unalaska high school students — the first opportunity of its kind in the community. He has also volunteered annually with the Cook Inlet Tribal Council’s Native Youth Olympics and shadowed a psychiatric nurse practitioner, gaining firsthand experience with the importance of telehealth in rural Alaska.

With a Doctor of Medicine degree, I can contribute to the Aleutian-Pribilof region by providing specialized psychiatric care for youth, helping them become healthy, resilient leaders for Unalaska’s future.

Through his education and career path, Luois hopes to bring accessible, culturally responsive mental health care to rural Alaska. His vision is to empower youth, foster resilience, and ensure that future generations of Unalaskans see mental health support as a source of strength.
