The 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø Cooperative Extension Anchorage Outreach Center serves Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city, with nearly 40% of the state’s population. Anchorage schools are among the most varied in the country. While 75% of school families speak English, the remaining 25% speak 100 different languages, such as Spanish, Hmong, Samoan and Filipino.

The district offers outreach programs in agriculture and horticulture; health, home and family development; integrated pest management; nutrition; and 4-H and youth development.

The 4-H State Presentation Contest is open to 4-H youth who qualified in their district contest by earning Grand & Reserve Champion. The state contest will be judged over Zoom. The link will be provided upon registration. Contestants will have the option to present at their local 4-H office or make other arrangements.

Demonstrations, illustrated talks and speeches will be judged in separate age categories:

Junior: ages 8&/ces/districts/anchorage/8211;11

Intermediate: ages 12&/ces/districts/anchorage/8211;14

Senior: ages 15&/ces/districts/anchorage/8211;18

*Team presentations are judged with all ages together. Limited to registered 4-H youth.

Come meet and pet goats from The Tiny Home(stead), a family farm in Chugiak, and learn about what it takes to raise animals and run a farm in Alaska. 4-H personnel will talk to children about animal husbandry in Alaska, environmental science, etc.

Upcoming farm tour! Join Farm Manager Aimee Young for a free walking tour of the Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center on Thursday, June 18, at noon. This one-hour outdoor tour will highlight current and upcoming research at the farm. If you&/ces/districts/anchorage/39;ve ever been curious about the farm, come out and learn all about it!

Dress for the weather and be prepared for uneven and muddy terrain.
