The 51·çÁ÷¹ÙÍø Cooperative Extension Anchorage Outreach Center serves Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city, with nearly 40% of the state’s population. Anchorage schools are among the most varied in the country. While 75% of school families speak English, the remaining 25% speak 100 different languages, such as Spanish, Hmong, Samoan and Filipino.

The district offers outreach programs in agriculture and horticulture; health, home and family development; integrated pest management; nutrition; and 4-H and youth development.

The Anchorage Outreach Center will be at the Anchorage Museum&/ces/districts/anchorage/39;s Lunch on the Lawn every Thursday in August. We will be testing canner gauges for free. You only have to bring the gauge or the lid with the gauge (if you have an All-American pressure canner, we ask that you remove the gauge from the lid to ensure the most accurate reading).

The Anchorage Museum brings you live music and food trucks every Tuesday and Thursday. Lunch on the Lawn, is their weekly live music series, features local and national acts performing live on the museum lawn.

Other activities include educational programming, community conversations and family-friendly games. Weekly activities vary. Free to attend.

Note: music and activities will move indoors if it rains, where museum admission applies.

Upcoming farm tour! Join Farm Manager Aimee Young for a FREE walking tour of the Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center on Thursday, Aug. 13, at noon. This one-hour outdoor tour will highlight current and upcoming research at the farm. If you&/ces/districts/anchorage/39;ve ever been curious about the Matanuska Experiment Farm, come out and learn all about it!

Dress for the weather and be prepared for uneven and muddy terrain.

Location: Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center, 1509 S. Georgeson Drive, Palmer. Meet in the lobby of Kerttula Hall.
