Professional Organizations
Joining professional organizations can be a great boon to many Communication members, whether they are established professionals or undergraduates just starting on their path through education. Not only can these groups provide a wealth of information for personal advancement and broaden one's experiential horizons, but membership to these prestigious groups can also contribute to your professional status by encouraging networking amongst industry professionals and demonstrating a dedication to the field. Many established members of these organizations support students through mentorship, internships, and research opportunities.
Even if they do not intend to seek membership, we encourage all students to explore the organizations listed below to better understand why they are formed, what areas they cover, and how their missions and current activity is impacting the world today.

The International Communication Association (ICA) is an academic association for scholars interested in the study, teaching and application of all aspects of human and mediated communication. Since 2003, ICA has been officially associated with the United Nations as a nongovernmental association (NGO).
The National Communication Association (NCA) advances communication as the discipline that studies all forms, modes, media and consequences of communication through humanistic, social scientific and aesthetic inquiry. Dedicated to fostering and promoting free and ethical communication, the NCA promotes the widespread appreciation of the importance of communication in public and private life, the application of competent communication to improve the quality of human life and relationships, and the use of knowledge about communication to solve human problems.
The American Communication Association (ACA) is a not-for-profit virtual professional association with actual presence in the world of communication scholars and practitioners.
