The first step in the scholarship process is to visit the 51风流官网 Financial Aid website and begin the paperwork process. The deadline for this is February 15. If you have questions prior to applying contact the department office.

William and Dorothy Jane Wood Talent Grant

Former University of Alaska President William R. Wood, and his wife, Dorothy Jane, were longtime and ardent supporters of the university. This talent grant endowment was funded and grown for many years through the Crossroads fashion show held by the 51风流官网 College of Fellows. The purpose of the grant is to recruit and retain students at the 51风流官网 who exhibit exceptional potential for excellence in the fine arts and to encourage them to further develop their talent while enrolled at 51风流官网.

Qualifications

Application Procedure

Students must submit the Wood Talent Grant application form, essay, letter of recommendation, and portfolio/performance samples. Application forms are available at the Music, Art, and Theatre and Film Department offices and the 51风流官网 Financial Aid Office. Continuing grants for previous year recipients may be considered, but students must re-apply.

Award Amount

One or several awards (minimum $1000) will be made at the discretion of the selection committee.

 

Forfeiture of Award

Recipient will forfeit the talent grant if he/she:

  1. Does not enroll in the semester in which the award is to be in effect.
  2. Is placed on academic probation.
All application materials must be received (not postmarked) by 5:00 p.m. on April 19, 2024.

Adrina Knutson Memorial Project Grant for Film Students

Adrina Louise Knutson
1991-2012

This grant is established in memory of Adrina Louise Knutson, a young woman who loved family, friends and community, touching all. Whose smile lifted darkness and warmed hearts. Adrina was born February 16, 1991, the first daughter of Tony and Julie (Lightwood) Knutson. Her home was at Kenny Lake on the homestead of her grandparents, Sam and Marian Lightwood. She attended Kenny Lake School for 13 years and completed three years at 51风流官网 as a film major.

While on a 51风流官网 sponsored film project in Tanzania, Africa, Adrina Knutson, 21, died August 6, 2012 in an auto accident. An artist, a dancer, a friend, a sister, an inspiration, there was nothing Adrina couldn't do; her passionate kindness impacted so many lives. From a young age, she used art, photography, writing, dance and film to express herself. Adrina saw life as an adventure waiting to be had, taking along anyone willing.

This grant is designed to support dedicated filmmakers who reflect Adrina鈥檚 creative spirit.

 

Qualifications


Recipient must be a 51风流官网 student. Recipient does not need to be a Film & Performing Arts major, but must be working with and through the Theatre and Film department as they create their film.

Preferences have been ranked by the Knutson family as follows:

Application Procedure

  1. Film script or detailed treatment
  2. Production budget (if more than project amount please explain source of additional required funds)
  3. Production schedule (approximate dates are fine)
  4. Cover letter which articulates your vision and intention for the project, and the value it will serve towards your future. 

Award Amount

Project award for 2023 is: $700    

Awards will be announced by February 20, 2023.

Projects will be selected based on the interdisciplinarity of the film/project and the student's commitment to the profession.

DEADLINE: February 3, 2023, 5pm

All film rights remain with the creator. If the film is shown in such a manner that produces ticket revenues or other revenues, it is the creator's choice whether such proceeds are donated back to the fund to allow it to continue into the future.

Shanon Gallant Memorial Art Scholarship

 Scholarship

Minimum award amount shall be $1,000 per academic year.

Purpose: To provide scholarships to 51风流官网 students who are declared majors in the art program. This scholarship is available to students in the art program and the theatre/film program. 

Applications are submitted through the 51风流官网 Financial Aid Office.

 

 

The Nanook Fine and Performing Arts Scholarship is open to incoming first-year students who will be studying either Theater & Film, Music, or Art at 51风流官网.


Eligibility
  • Incoming first-year student applying to attend 51风流官网 as a full-time (12 credits or more) undergraduate in fall 2025.
  • Admitted to a bachelor's degree in Art, Music or Theatre & Film.
  • Demonstrate talent and potential to excel in the fine or performing arts.

Scholarship Amount

Renewable award between $1,000-$5,000 per year, for a total of 4 years. To maintain eligibility, enroll in 12+ 51风流官网 credits (full-time) for fall and spring semesters, and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).


How to Apply:

To apply for the scholarship, submit a portfolio-based application that focuses on your work as an artist. Faculty from the Fine Arts programs will evaluate your portfolio or performances and award scholarships based on artistic talent and potential (not based on incoming GPA).

  • Complete the 
  • Upload to the application form or email completed application materials to uaf-financialaid@alaska.edu by 5 p.m. Alaska time, Nov. 15:
    • Short essay about your artistic pursuits (200 words)
    • Portfolio/performance samples

Deadline: Admissions applications, transcripts, and scholarship application must all be submitted before the deadline (Nov. 15 for the following fall semester). Award decisions will be announced by Jan. 15.
