Facilities

Advanced Instrumentation Laboratory

The Advanced Instrumentation Laboratory (AIL) at the 51风流官网 is a multi-instrument resource for the state of Alaska. It specializes in surface and elemental analysis as well as electron microscopy. In addition to the instrumentation it also houses support sample preparation facilities. AIL is located on the 51风流官网 campus in the Reichardt Building.

Computer Labs

The Department maintains a computer lab for student and faculty use for coursework and research.

Geochronology Lab

The Geochronology Laboratory at 51风流官网 conducts research in determining the ages of rocks and minerals using the 40Ar/39Ar step-heating dating method. Major areas of research emphasis include determining the tectonic history of Alaska and adjacent Russia, determining the relationship between plutonism and ore mineralization and determining the eruptive history of Alaska's volcanoes.

Poster Printing

The Department of Geology and Geophysics offers poster printing services to students and faculty in our department, and supports poster presentations by students in several CNSM department courses.

Wide Format Scanner

The Department of Geology and Geophysics also has a wide format scanner that can scan documents up to a width of 44 inches. Its use is free to students and faculty of the department.

Spectroscopy Lab

The remote sensing group Spectroscopy Lab focuses on geological and ecological research. The purpose of the facility is to train students, support remote sensing research through ground calibration/validation data collection, and to collaborate with state and private industry.

Spencer Library Availability

The Spencer Library is located in 306 Reichardt Building. It is available for university-related meetings when not in use by the department.  The projector connection to your laptop is mini VGA, please bring appropriate connectors as needed.
The room holds 24.

If you are interested in reserving the Spencer Library, contact Lynnette Dunn either by phone, 907-474-6892, or by e-mail, lddunn@alaska.edu

Experimental Petrology

The 51风流官网 Experimental Petrology Lab contains an array of high pressure and temperature equipment used to recreate the conditions of subsurface magma plumbing systems. Coupled with the analytical equipment housed within AIL, the Experimental Petrology Lab provides powerful tools that compliment 51风流官网's broad research expertise in Volcanology.
